Yihudia Hike (Nachal Yihudia) – Golan Hights Water Hike

19 August 2009 3 Comments

Price of trip in Shekels: 150

How many days did this trip take: 3

What bus/train routes did you use: From Jerusalem, we took a late bus to Tibirias. We then had to take a Taxi (Moneet) to the Yihudia Camp Site. After the hike, we hitch-hiked back to Tibirias (A bus runs from the campsite to Tibirias usually, but we forgot that it was the end of a Holiday)and then caught a late bus from the Tibiras bus station to Jerusalem. That is about a 4-5 hour bus ride so you can catch up on some sleep. Purchase tickets in advance on http://egged.co.il/eng/

The bus stopped in: Jerusalem, Tibirias

On the 13th, we hoped on a bus to the central bus station in Jerusalem, bought 13 bagels and cream cheese, and jumped on a bus to Tiberias. From there, we got a taxi to the camp site, which was about 30 minutes away. At that point, it was late, so we set up camp, ate some dinner, and went to bed for the night.

Once we reached the bottom of the canyon where the river was, we saw a great sign. We laugh in the face of danger…

You would thinking that hiking in Israel, you would be going through the desert, but it felt like we were in the Jungle. We were going through trees, bushes, and swamps.

Needless to say, I was very happy that the water only went up to our knees. It was freezing. Literally, it was some of the coldest water I have ever felt, but when it is only up to your ankles, it really isn’t that bad. Then we reached the “fun” part. There was a a large waterfall, and the only way down was to climb down the ladder. Once you were down, the only way to get to ground was to swim 20 or 30 feet to the shore.

I did this hike! The water is freezing and you really shouldn’t bring anything that can’t get wet, but the camp site lets you keep your stuff there. Other than that, this is a must-do hike. Great weekend!

This hike is AMAZING. But don’t get on the badside of the park rangers at the campsite. APPARENTLY, you can’t leave the immediate sight of the campsite and go wandering at night. They almost called the police on us. Basically, just listen to what the rangers tell you.
